Life Adrift

It was two in the morning. The last band was wrapping up their encore.  From where Deidre sat on the dew-covered grass, the stage looked miles away, an orange glow beneath a night sky dusted with stars, soon to be swallowed in darkness.

Harrison must have slipped away to take a leak without telling her. She wandered through the crowd. No one had seen him. Knowing he was somewhere in this sea of bodies was suffocating.

Morning broke deep as blue porcelain. She reported him missing.

“Was he stoned?”

Adrift in a white-blue sky above her, an airship.

“No . . . yes.”

Below is the photo prompt from Madison Woods:

Come up with a story, 100 words, more or less, based on the photo below.

A really vivid idea here, to me at least – that moment look for someone when you’re so tired. Good job.

That was very interesting, reminding me of the last big festival I went to – Altamont. Lost in a sea of people, I might have wished I could float away like a balloon. Very nice, WBS.

The metaphorical airship, floating out of reach…I did not know quite what to make of this and had to read it twice to decide that Harrison was one of us in those festival days. She couldn’t hold on to him and he had drifted off, like the airship, and was probably having great sex with some stoned chicks in the poison ivy patch on the other side of the hill…
    Yours as ever,

….”Morning broke as blue porcelain..” Beautiful line. I agree with Lindaura…if he was stoned, he probably hooked up with some other stoned chick. Nice take on the prompt. Here’s mine:

lots of possibilities. the “no….yes.” is great. i’m wondering if she’s also stoned, and her thoughts are easily drifting to the blimp and away from him. but if that were the case, then it wouldn’t have been “suffocating” to not know where he was. i’m going with that she’s thinking he might be up there on the blimp.

Blue porcelain is the perfect description of a bright blue English sky – the ending sounds like the typical thing you’d say to someone in authority when you want to do the right thing but also want to protect someone too 🙂

Great story. Dierdre noticint the blimp captures the feeling of disorientation when someone who should be there isn’t. Mine’s here:
